What's this Supermom Network all about, anyway?
The Haredi Women Professionals Network meets once a month to provide a forum to meet, brainstorm, and share support with other women who share the same challenges and interests.
What we've noticed is that as professionals, there are important parts of our lives that our friends and neighbors just may not understand. Linking up with other frum women -- even if they're in different fields -- offers an opportunity to discuss these issues.
Some examples of the kinds of discussions we've had (all informal):
* I have to travel to China on business. How do I do this with an 8-month old?
* How do I deal with not answering the phone during bedtime for my kids?
* Brainstorming ideas for developing an internship program on behalf of young Anglo women.
* A discussion of cell phones -- kosher? non-kosher? both? -- and how we use them to communicate with our families and clients.
* Explaining to American colleagues about not shaking hands with men.
Overall, even though we are in different industries (architecture, medicine, hi-tech, real estate law, marketing, etc.), we have a lot in common. Juggling family needs with work needs; being responsible to keep a company/staff/client running smoothly; financial responsibility; business travel; inflexible schedules; balancing tzniyus with career demands for publicity... there's so much we share.
